The '51 Nash Custom Coupe

This car came to me through the estate of the original owner. While that may sound as if the car was lovingly maintained for the last 60 plus years, nothing could be further from the truth. Last on the road in '61, it spent the next 20 years in a barn, and the remaining time outside. When I took delivery, rust far outweighed faded paint, glass was broken, and the modest flathead 6 was froze tight. Adding to the misery, the manual trans was toast and the interior decimated by mice.

My aim is to create a custom ride that looks as if was cobbled in 1963. The coupe now sports a tri carb '52 Ambassador mill. The turbo trans, shortened torque tube, and rear differential were all "borrowed" from a junkyard find. Needless to say, this is an ongoing project.

The Custom Blackboard

With the frame fashioned from the moulding of a vintage ornate mirror, the blackboard project required that I somehow "stretch" the antique frame to afford more room for the considerably larger blackboard. Grafting new wood moulding, hand carving, and a MDO substrate, all figured into the mix. Finished pix to come!

The Free-Suspension Bed

Inspired by vintage railway sleeper bunks of the 30's & 40's, this free suspension bed has two upper bunks, positioned head to head. Fabricated entirely from 3/4th birch ply, the center section functions as the single ground support, and as the divide for the twin study carrels. The opposing ends of the bunks are free suspended to the ceiling by adjustable turn buckles. The inverted trapezoid ladder, grants access to the snug beds.
